Case review 9: Colles' fracture


History

An 85 years old women fell at home and suffered from pain and swelling at left distal forearm.
Patient came to NR for x-ray of left radius ulna.

X-ray findings

The x-ray shows fractures across the distal end of radius and ulna.
The distal fragment is displaced posteriorly.
The bones are generally osteopenic indicating osteoporosis.
No associated dislocation seen.


Impression

Colles' fracture left distal Radius & Ulna with complete displacement secondary to osteoporosis.
